The human gastrointestinal tract is a highly dynamic ecosystem. The total area of the mucosal surface of the human gastrointestinal tract is 400 m2 which makes it the largest surface area in the body that interacts with the external environment. If we look at the composition of the Human GI flora we notice that there are more than 100 trillion of bacteria in number, more than 1,000 species of bacteria colonize in our gastrointestinal tract and its weight is about 3kg. If we analyze our body in number of cell we notice that 90% of our entire cell is bacteria and 10% is human cells. Healthy ratio is 85% good and 15% bad bacteria in the intestine.

In the event of gastrointestinal infections or excessive use of antibiotics, there can be a shift in the ecologic balance of bacteria in the intestine, which makes one more susceptible to diseases. Example diarrhea, disturbance in digestion of food, frequent infections, allergies, asthma, increase cancer risk, disturb absorption of minerals and micronutrients from the diet, synthesis of vitamin, etc. Therefore, ecologic balance in the intestine should be restored and maintained through the use of clinically proven probiotics (good bacteria) & prebiotics (food for good bacteria).
